Marta Baldassarri hails from the Marche region and grew up with her tailor grandparents and aunt in their fabric scrap shop. Everything she wanted but couldn’t buy, she created with her imagination. Her background is in art, but she has had many work experiences in the fashion industry. From a young age, she could not tolerate certain work practices and, while observing to learn on one hand, on the other, she continuously took notes on how she believed certain things should be done. Her notes reveal the need to “Slow down,” produce less and better, and pay deep attention to the environment, workers, and collaboration.

From modeling school and endless mountain walks, her project Ètico - Sartoria Marchigiana was born. It began in an old kitchen transformed into a tailor’s shop and two tiny attics turned into a dyeing studio, where she recalls the cold winters spent testing botanical dyeing and printing. For three years, she traveled to markets with her clothes, until she fulfilled her dream of moving to her beloved Apennines, at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains, where she opened her atelier. A space that includes a tailor’s shop and natural dyeing studio. Inside her workshop, she designs, sews, and dyes each garment one by one, both small collections and custom-made dresses.
