Assunta Cioffi

Campania, ITALY

Asun is the essence of my creativity, it is a nomadic journey towards distant and wild lands.

Assunta Cioffi is an artisan based in southern Italy, in a small village near the larger cities of Campania. She lives in deep connection with her surroundings, drawing inspiration from every lived experience. For her, change is synonymous with life. She observes the world with curiosity, seeking beauty in nature and transforming it into unique creations. Through her work, she aims to communicate a sense of harmony between the natural world and humanity, blending the two in a seamless artistic expression.

The Native Americans' bead-weaving technique

Peyote Stitch, also known as Pumpkin Stitch, is a bead-weaving technique that originated with the Native American tribes, particularly the Huichol people of Mexico. This intricate method was traditionally used to decorate ceremonial objects such as bags, bracelets, and necklaces. The name "peyote" derives from the sacred peyote ceremony, in which shamans, through the use of a hallucinogenic cactus, entered a trance state to communicate with the spirits of the earth, ancestors, and gods. The ritualistic and symbolic nature of this technique continues to inspire Assunta’s work today.
