We had the chance to visit the 4th edition of Florence Jewellery Week discovering the coolest Jewellery designers.
The must see cultural event dedicated to contemporary jewelry, takes place in the beautiful city of Florence (Italy) from the 28th April to 2nd May.
We loved the event not only because of the one-of-a-kind piece of fine jewelry we saw, but also because of the amazing locations that host the exhibitions!
You can have a stroll in the stunning city center of Florence and also enjoy the FJW at the same time!
The event has many different venues/exhibitions, here’s our reviews of the main ones and the things we loved the most!
N. 1
Preziosa
Palazzo Medici Riccardi – Via Cavour 5
Can you imagine a Jewel made out of upcycled Actimel Yogurt pots?
That is just one of the incredible creations that you can admire at Preziosa Exhibition hosted in Palazzo Medici Riccardi . The exhibition challenges the idea of “regular/traditional jewels” and focuses instead on the concept of wearable sculpture capable of transforming the wearer. You can’t miss it!
N. 2
Preziosa Young
Galleria di Palazzo Coveri – Lungarno Guicciardini 19
Preziosa Young is a whole exhibition dedicated to emerging artists selected through an international competition. Certainly, this space promotes what is new in the jewellery research and gives visibility to the new generations of goldsmiths, designers and artists.
Above you can admire beautiful, thoughtful pieces of jewellery.
N. 3
Gioielleria Fratelli Piccini
Ponte Vecchio
You can’t miss this historical jewellery shop in the heart of Florence! Fratelli Piccini Jewelry is placed in one of the most iconic spot of the city…and just to give you a little spoiler: the view from the shop is breathtaking!
We couldn’t imagine that above the Ponte Vecchio boutique there is a small historical workshop that is the same as it was in 1903 (when the jewellery first opened on Ponte Vecchio) and where many jewels of the Maison are still being crafted!
N. 4
Preziosa Makers
Antiche Scuderie di Palazzo Corsini al Prato
Here you can finally put your hands on some cool, handmade jewels!
At Preziosa Makers you’ll meet 18 designers and crafters that will show you their creations and tell you all about the concept of the jewels and the making-of process behind them.
Most importantly, here you can try on some jewels and buy some pieces on the spot, but be careful…it will be very hard not to buy them all!
N. 5
Bollmann Collection
Palazzo del Pegaso
Lastly, we suggest you to take a look at the Bollmann collection at Palazzo del Pegaso (right next to “Preziosa Exhibition” at Palazzo Medici Riccardi).
Here you can admire the fine collection of 28 unique jewels and also have a closer look to one of the masterpiece of the master goldsmith Giovanni Corvaja; the artisan has taken gold thread to a super fine dimension turning it into a Golden Fleece.
To clarify, it took him more than 2.500 hours of work to create the incredible gold hat that is exposed in this venue!
