These handcrafted earrings, made in Italy from sterling silver, feature a delicate hand forming the horn gesture: horns are said to drive away curses or bad luck. An apotropaic usage of the sign can be seen in Italy when confronted with unfortunate events, or simply when these events are mentioned, the sign of the horns may be given to ward off further bad luck. In Italy the gesture is known as the corna ('horns'). It is a common apotropaic gesture, by which people seek protection in unlucky situations. Inspired by ancient Italian folklore, where this gesture is believed to ward off negativity and bring positive energy.
