Benedetta Grasso, an Italian designer and artisan based in Porto, Portugal, brings a delicate touch to her craft. With a background in languages and literatures, her creative journey has been shaped by diverse experiences and eclectic interests. Inherently creative, Benedetta has a deep appreciation for poetry, nature, crafts, and manufacturing. It was the combination of these interests that led her to immerse herself more deeply in ceramics during the first lockdown in March 2020.
Co-founding the Multidisciplinary Arts and Crafts Space (MACS) in Porto, Benedetta honed her skills as a ceramist and metalsmith, exploring new techniques and pushing the boundaries of her craft. Motivated by a desire to create objects that are both beautiful and functional, Benedetta founded TOBE, a project dedicated to crafting everyday essentials with a focus on authenticity and sustainability.
Alongside her passion for handmade craftsmanship and working with materials, Benedetta choose to embrace a new creative possibilities, mastering silversmithing techniques. This additional expertise enriches her creative repertoire, allowing her to explore new dimensions in her artistic expression.

From wheel-throwing to casting
Benedetta employs the wheelthrown technique, ensuring precision and uniformity in her creations. Recently, she has incorporated molding techniques to maintain consistency in production and dimensions.
A meticulous preparation
Benedetta primarily works with stoneware and porcelain, fired at high temperatures for durability and aesthetics. She prepares her materials meticulously, ensuring they are free from impurities before processing.
Benedetta's choice of transparent glaze, combined with oxides like copper and cobalt, adds depth and character to her creations. Occasionally, she incorporates vibrant color glazes, such as orange and red, for a playful touch.

Central to her process is the value of patience and attentiveness, embracing the slow, deliberate nature of ceramic creation with meticulous care and dedication, as she forms intimate connections with each piece, imbuing them with a sense of warmth and personality.
