Rayas Collective was born in 2022 by sisters Luisa & Consuelo after the two travelled to Consuelo’s home country of El Salvador. Exploring local craft markets, sourcing materials and working hand in hand with artisans, they returned with their hearts and heads full of wonder and inspiration.

Motivated to share the beauty and spirit of El Salvador with the world, they combined their complementary professional backgrounds in design and operations, and have put together a collection of unique and eclectic woven market baskets.

Basket weaving has a long tradition in El Salvador, it’s a skill usually transferred between family members and for many living in remote villages an important means to make a living.
‘Rayas’ means ’stripes’ in Spanish, the name references the woven, often horizontally or vertically striped structure of the baskets and communicates the project's heritage and the collective team that is involved.
