CAROL ALISON BARGHINI

Pistoia, ITALY

"There are always flowers for those who want to see them."
Henri Matisse

Art has always been part of her life, born in Lugano, Switzerland, since she was a child she painted and created with her mother. She studied at the Art high school of Pietrasanta in Tuscany, where she discovered clay and marble, at the Academy of fine Arts in Florence she concentraded in painting, and then left it in 2021 to dedicate herself to ceramics, where however the pictorial part remained very important in her works. She fell in love with ceramics for its slowness in execution, its unpredictability, for it infinite uses and possibilities, it helped her to accept mistakes, because what is made by hand cannot always be perfect.

Mastering Slabs and Wheels in Ceramics

She mainly uses the technique of the slab and wheel throwing. For objects such as plates or bowls, she uses the slab technique, kneads the clay and rolls it out, and then creates the pieces using paper patterns that she has made personally. While for cups and vases, she uses the wheel, prepare the clay and works it, and then later attaches any handles. Feeling how the clay is shaped in her hands is one of the most beautiful sensations. When the piece is completed, it is decorated either raw or on the biscuit piece, as the last step the piece is glazed and fired a second time. Ceramic time are very long, both because there is often no turning back for a small mistake, and also because of its needs, such as slow drying.
