Carola Varacalli, 27, was born and lives in Milan, where she studied and currently works. During her studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, she became interested in ceramics, attending two wheel-throwing courses — one in Umbria and one in Milan. After graduating in 2022, she decided to devote herself entirely to this practice.

Her research has always been guided by tridimensionality and organic forms. Clay thus became her material of choice for exploring free-flowing, sinuous shapes. On the surfaces of her vessels, there is a reference to the freedom of the blank canvas: slips and glazes behave like paint, making ceramics the ideal meeting point between different artistic languages.

Although the wheel remains her primary tool — a true education of the hand and the material, constantly challenging — many of her pieces reveal a need to deconstruct and move beyond precision: irregular, swollen, sometimes almost “melted” forms evoke the sinuosity of the earth. The wheel is the starting point; now it is the hands that move with autonomy.

Since 2023, she has been teaching in several studios and workshops across Milan, an experience that has allowed her to discover the educational dimension of ceramics and to put into practice the skills and sensibilities she has developed over time.
