Clara Dwels, the creative force behind Clara de la Céra, seamlessly blends her background in advertising with her passion for ceramics. Born and raised in Belgium, Clara transformed her ceramics hobby into a full-time profession in 2020. Today, she is the co-owner of BOUCAN, a charming flower and ceramics shop-atelier in Brussels, where she crafts her unique personal collection. In addition to BOUCAN, Clara founded Atelier Exo, an open ceramic studio in Brussels.

You might wonder...

Yes, within certain limits. The checkered vases can feature two colors, and personal notes can be added. Additionally, larger vases can be produced to order.

I create a few series per year, sometimes collaborating with other artists to combine talents and approaches. The checkered vases are my 'signature' pieces.

Only food-safe glazes are used at the studio. It's important to follow safety measures in the production process only.

Painting checkers by hand

The vases are crafted using hand-building and molding, and the checkers are hand-painted. The vases undergo a bisque firing process, heated at 950 degrees Celsius, before a transparent glaze is applied by brush, subjected to a second firing at 1220 degrees Celsius. This final step seals the stoneware and melts the glaze, resulting in a beautiful glass-like varnish that enhances the aesthetic appeal and durability of each vase.
