Marte21 is the planet of eco-friendly glass, an ever-evolving project, a world unveiled in 2021 by Maria Caterina Barbieri. Maria Caterina has nurtured her love for glass since her school days, discovering a remarkable school for artistic and artisanal glass craftsmanship: Vetroricerca. During her time there, she absorbed knowledge from globally renowned glass artists sharing their techniques.
After obtaining her certificate as an Expert in Artistic and Artisanal Glasswork in 2013, she relocated to Venice to immerse herself in the world of glass under the guidance of Moulaye Niang, a master of lampworking. In Venice, she pursued further studies at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in Sculpture in 2017.
In 2020, she completed her master's degree in Art Direction and Product Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Verona.
Balancing her role as a Social Media Manager for two companies, Maria Caterina opened her workshop in Verona in 2021 and introduced her brainchild: Marte21, a hub for design and craftsmanship, a laboratory for innovation, a new realm where sustainable glass creations come to life.
With Marte21 Maria Caterina creates minimalist objects where the hues and properties of upcycled glass take center stage adding significance to glass elements in our everyday lives, such as bottles.

La valeur dans les détails
Upcycling to give higher value
All Marte21 designs are entirely handmade. Each piece is custom designed and made based on Upcycling, which is about transforming existing products, such as bottles, into a higher value. The melting of each piece in the kiln gives each piece a unique character with deformations and irregularities always new.
All from salvaged bottles
All Mars21 products are made from salvaged bottles that friendly restaurants, bars, and people save to support the project. Each bottle has its label removed, with great effort, and is then cleaned and prepared for inclusion in the process. In the Marte21 world, no bottles are purchased but each product is created from 100% recycled bottles.
Responsible action
The core for Marte21 is sustainability, responsible action, careful craftsmanship as opposed to a world where overproduction and mass production have disrupted consumption systems and the value of products.
