Barcelona, Spain

Ana Luiza Cruz is a Brazilian designer and ceramicist based in Barcelona. Having lived in different lands, Ana is inspired by what makes individuals feel comfortable and belong to their homes, connecting with the piece of ground that guides them emotionally.

Ana finds in handcrafted ceramics a way to identify with people through the belief that the care for the home is a grounding form of self-care. She explores her grandfather and great-grandfather's craft with a delicate combination of contemporary references and sentimental touch.

"Oema intends to connect people with their homes as extensions of themselves, recognizing the importance of knowing the history of what was chosen to be part of the everyday rituals."

Slowly, personally and individually

Ceramics is a slow pace craft and it all relies on time. Each piece is carefully and individually handcrafted from start to finish and takes a few weeks to be made. The clay is shaped and finished by hands using the potter’s wheel, water and a few tools. It then goes through two firings, ending with food-safe functional pieces.

Making objects to last

Working with high-quality clay fired at high temperature and food safe, microwave and dishwasher safe glazes, Oema’s creations are made to last for many years to come. Each piece is created with the intention to be treasured and used every day for a long period of time requiring very simple care.

An ode to sensitive everyday rituals

Oema is inspired by the curiosity about what makes us feel at home. Relating to people who see beauty in details and value the importance of knowing the history of what surrounds them, recognizing the practical and aesthetic values of what was carefully chosen to be part of their routines.

You might wonder...

Can Oema's products come into contact with liquids and food?

Yes, all pieces are food safe. Special attention to not leaving the pieces with pigmented liquids forever, wash after the use and store when dried.

How do I choose the right size for me?

It all depends on your tastes and habits. The mini mug is perfect for an American coffee or cappuccino. The mini cup, on the other hand, is perfect for tea or a tasty dessert or snack.

How best to care for Oema ceramics?

Pieces are microwave and dishwasher safe, however, hand-washing is always encouraged and guarantees a longer life.
